Description
Black Cohosh (the rhizome of Cimicifuga racemosa) has been used by women through the centuries for amenhorrea, dysmenhorrea, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and relief of menopausal complaints such as hot flushes and sweating. Black Cohosh exerts a protective force around bones and although Cimicifuga has estrogen-like effects, it can be safely used in treating symptoms of menopause. It has proved to ameliorate states of anxiety and depression, especially related to women’s hormonal fluctuations. Black Cohosh can be used as an adjuvant treatment for mucus-related conditions, as well as treating cough reflex (anecdotal) and is used as an American-Indian traditional intervention for whooping cough.
